Internet speed is dependent on many things.
- Connection to your router - Are you connecting via Wi-Fi or a wired connection? Wi-Fi while convenient adds latency and is susceptible to interference.
Wi-Fi
- Distance from your Wireless access point
- Interference from other nearby networks.
- Walls between the access point and your device.
- Metal, if your network cabinet is made of metal and the Wi-Fi is inside, then there may be no signal getting out.
- Wi-Fi speed - how fast can the device connect at? Check what Wi-Fi generation your device and access point can communicate through and how many antennas there are on each. A general rule is that unless you are sitting right next to your access point then you will not reach the advertised speeds of either.
Wired connections
- Local network connection speed - a switch limited to 100Mbps will bottleneck any modern device capable of running at gigabit speeds.
- Faulty/loose cables should always be checked if the connection drops out entirely.
Running a speedtest will give you an idea of how well your internet connection is working from that device.
If you find there is an issue where your internet service is not performing as expected and the above is not the cause then please raise a ticket through the Submit Ticket button at the top of this page or through our contact page.
